Just desserts

I managed to shake off my lack of motivation that I wallowed in all weekend and get some stuff done today! It felt good to be occupied. Laundry, filling the bird feeders, cleaning up some of the clutter that I tend to accumulate around my "spot," etc.

When I went out to get the mail, I took a litte walk around to see what kind of flowers are popping up. The daffodils are on the verge of blooming, there are tulips all over the place, and now the hyacinths are starting to emerge. It's supposed to get warmer as the week goes on, so I suspect things will be blooming soon! Oh, and the forsythia has tiny flowers on it, so that should be in full color within a week or so.

I had a nice surprise when my Mom and Dad stopped by after a doctor's appointment!  Mom wanted to walk around and see what kind of flowers we've got coming up. She suggested that I dig up some of the bulbs that are deeper in the trees and put them in spots where you can see them easier. I said I kind of like them among the trees, for a couple of reasons. The sun hits them in various degrees, so they all develop at difference rates. It seems like the bloom time is extended this way. I also love seeing a surprising splash of color in the midst of all the leaves. Sometimes they're really hidden away, and you'll round a tree and there's a gorgeous red tulip! I like being surprised.

Not to mention, it'd be a lot of work to get out there and dig up a bunch of bulbs! And have I mentioned our poison ivy? It's like a crazy, alien, invasive life form, and while I'm not quite as allergic, Ken is highly allergic. I'll get some pictures this summer (of the ivy, not of the rash I hope Ken does NOT get).

I got the strawberries cleaned, too (finally!), so dinner tonight will be sliced strawberries on angel food cake. Does anyone else ever have strawberry shortcake for dinner? I remember when I was a kid, and strawberries were in season, we'd sometimes have that. My favorite way to have it is on the little shortcakes you make using Bisquick, but Ken's is with angel food cake. When we're having just that for dinner, it's best to go with the lighter angel food cake. How can you go wrong with cake for dinner? And strawberries are very good for you, with lots of antioxidants and junk like that. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I clean, dice and sugar the strawberries aand leave them overnight in the fridge. They form their own syrup and the next day, it's strawberries over pound cake with whipped cream.

I actually make the bisquits using the Bisquick mix and break them up, put the strawberries and juice on them. I haven't had strawberry shortcake in the longest time. I need to find a reliable fruit and vegetable place around me, the local Giant is serving up rotted goods these days. (Hugs) Indigo

My DH also is highly allergic to poison ivy and has gotten really sick from it in the past. Glad you had a good day!
