More Oreo

Another beautiful sunny day, but not as warm. There's a possibility of a frost or a freeze Monday night. Nooooo! The flowering cherry is starting to blossom, and I don't want it to get nipped the way it did last year when Kim and Steve were here. I'll be so bummed if it happens 2 years in a row.

I got some great pictures of Oreo this morning! I'll put my favorite up here and put the rest in My Pictures. At first he was eating suet rather than the oranges, but now he's been chowing down on the oranges all afternoon. And even more exciting (I know you're all just jumping up and down with excitement right about now!) is that while I was watching Oreo, Hummy came buzzing up to the feeder and got a drink. So they're finally back! I'm so pleased. I've only seen the male, I haven't seen any females yet. But I'm happy they're back. I hope they stay warm Monday night!

That is such a beautiful bird and those oranges just sets off it's color. We had about three cold nights here after I first saw the hummer here. Thanks for sharing that beautiful picture. Helen

What a cool bird ! Nice pic. We don'y get Orioles down here except for the non-winged baseball players. I used to see catbirds all the time down here, but I haven't seen one in years.

You are doing one of my favorite past-times, bird watching, only you are taking far better pictures than I ever could. I was a stay-at-home mom for thirteen years, and during that time I learned to garden, pull weeds, identify birds, and many other yard-related activities. I never saw an Oriole visit my birdfeeder, but would have been delighted to see one. This is a stunning photo! bea

Beth,

What kind of camera do you use to take pictures of your birds?

I was setting on the deck and tried to take a picture of a hummingbird and I must not have a strong enough zoom because couldn't get close enough and your pictures of your birds are WONDERFUL!!

Hi Debbie, thanks for the nice comment! I'll send you an email with this info, in case you don't read this comment, but a couple of other people have asked me the same thing, so I'll put it up here.

I have a Canon A710, with 7.1 megapixels and a 6x optical zoom. The zoom seems to do pretty well for getting close shots like this one of "Oreo." It's not as sharp as I'd like (I was shooting through the glass, though), but for a very average photographer like me, it works pretty well.

I hope to get better pictures this summer when I'm sitting out on the deck and don't have to snap 'em through the window!

Hugs to you and Danny!

Beth
