Survivor Indiana

Hmm. Interesting weather. The temperature has dropped throughout the day, and we're now under 50°, and it's raining. I'm hoping that the temperature won't drop too low, and that everything that is budding and blooming will survive. Oddly enough, this rain might help, because if it gets really cold, any ice will protect rather than hurt the plants. (That's why you see them hosing down the trees in Florida orchards when it gets really nippy.) I don't think it will get that cold, so maybe everything will be okay. I was actually hoping for the clouds to roll in, because cloud cover could keep it from getting too cold tonight! I also hope that Hummy will find a little hidey hole where he can keep warm!

I'm still sticking with my little workouts! Today was hand weights for my arms. I told Ken what all I was doing, and he suggested one more, holding the weights out at shoulder height and bringing them into my midline. Good suggestion, and I added that today.

I went to the grocery store this morning and decided to get stuff for stir fry. I've got beef, broccoli, mushrooms, and pea pods. And Vidalia onions, of course! Oh, and I got another cutting board, a bamboo one. I have a large glass one, and I like using that for meat, because I can put it into the dishwasher. This is smaller, and it will look nice up against the wall, but I'll have to handwash it, so I'll use this one just for veggies. Veggies like ONIONS!

Awww. Even though it's down to about 45° and raining, Oreo is out there in the rain chowing on oranges and suet. Get plenty of fuel, buddy, and find a place to stay warm. I know it's silly to worry about our critters--they almost always find a way to protect themselves and find shelter. Living here has certainly been an education in how nature works, and it's not always pleasant. I just hope for the best and keep in mind that it's the natural order of things.

Tonight is a good example of needing two cutting boards - stir fry meat, and stir fry vegetables.  Good purchase Honey.

As for the critter issue, it has been educational.  I have found the remains of several fawns and other critters in the marsh, and have on several occasions had to get rid of a raccoon or possum carcass, not to mention the time hunters brought a full deer to the driveway.  Not a place for those with a weak stomach, unless you have a Hubby to take care of it for you :o)

I hope all those birds and critters will find a place to stay warm and dry. I worry about the wildlife myself. Even send up some prayers for them. It has been windy and chilly here today after rain last night. Helen

I'm so glad I learned a simple lesson a few years ago - don't plant any flowers until the weather remains in or above 50 degrees at night for a week or more. It's been almost fulproof with me and gardening. I'm actually enjoying the cool weather and rain. I do worry about the kittens though, I've got extra blankets on the porch and it's enclosed so they should be fine, if not they'll be spending the week in Doc's music room. I put a litter box on the porch and put the kittens in (with a small little turd they left on the porch). I'm a proud mama, they caught on in nothing flat they are all using it. This from kittens born to feral cats that have never seen a litter box before (these are strays that were born outside and we couldn't catch)...Life is so cool sometimes. (Hugs) Indigo

At work, we have a suet feeder hanging on a tree outside our office. It's a lot of fun to watch the different birds come and discover the treat. Your right though, I worry about them in the rain and cold weather !!
Have a great day,
Ellen

my grandma ate an onion every single day for lunch along with the rest of her food. She always smelled like onions. She died at 98 and a half yrs of age.
We have the same weather as you do. Cold!

I am back to my original Journal at least I hope it works out  till my new tower comes in.  It has been cold here in Nebraska also.  I hate the cold temps when my flowers are blooming.  Have a good rest of the day.  Lucille4364

I'm going to be bringing some of my plants indoors and cover others with pillow cases.  There is a chance of frost tonight, but I hope nothing gets damaged.  Great going on your workouts!

I do hope that everything survives.  As you said when you have acres you really hope and pray for the crops survival.  Lucille4364
