Be afraid...be very afraid

Since I'm stuck at home, it seemed like a good time to do some online shopping! And what did I order? Something I'm getting seriously low on: books. The pile of books by my side of the bed is only two deep, and about 3 feet tall. Time to stock up!

I really do have plenty to read, but 3 of our favorite authors have new books out. John Grisham has The Appeal, Dean Koontz released The Darkest Evening of the Year (although I think that one has been out for a couple of months), and my favorite author has a new one, Duma Key.

Yep, Stephen King's new book is out, and amazingly enough, it's not set in Maine! I just read an article about him and his book in Time, and it seems that he and his wife are spending the winter in Florida. He joked about how it's the law that as you get a little older, you have to move to Florida. He said something that made me laugh: "Sixty's the new 50, and dead is the new alive." He does have a way with words, doesn't he? One of the things I've always loved about him--and I've been reading him since Carrie first came out--is his truly demented sense of humor. He's more than a little off the wall, and I kind of like that in a person.

The snow seems to have let up, and I saw the mail truck go by, so I suppose I'd better get out there and get it. While I'm out, I'll shovel us a little path to the garage. Ken will snow blow the driveway tomorrow. More later!

I have to go to the library for books.  Otherwise, there would be no room to walk and no money left!

Traci, I'm learning to get into the habit of going to the library (to which I have donated many boxes of books!). I'm a book collector, and we have five tall bookcases downstairs filled with books. I'm trying to get away from buying so many books, but there are certain authors that we want to buy. But I always get them on sale!

"Momsfirst," thanks for visiting and commenting!

I've found after a few months hard bound books get regulated to the discount section of the book stores. More often than not I buy my favorite authors in hard back cheaper than I would pay for the paperback. You and I have similiar taste when it comes to reading. I'm a huge horror-mystery fan. Someone asked me how I could read books like that with my background of having a hard life. (I know strange question, still not sure what it had to do with my reading preference). The way I look at it is this, in most horror movies , books the outcome is good always wins...to a degree. Perhaps it's because I recognize the ugly, demented demeanor of the villians...I've known one to many real life monsters in my lifetime.

I believe Stephen Kings newest book out is called "Blaze" and was written under his pen name of Richard Bachman....(winks) Yeah I do know a little about what I read. (Hugs) Indigo

I do the same thing, Indigo! I buy hardbacks after they go into the discount section. A few authors, though, I have to get before they go there (such as SK). Blaze came out a while ago (and you're right, under SK's pen name), and Lisey's Story was after that, I think. That's a good one, very touching. Duma Key just came out in January, and I'm looking forward to reading it!

Someone once told me they thought King's books were "evil." I said, "Huh?!" Anyone who bothers to read them will see immediately that they're mostly about a struggle between good and evil, and as you noted, good usually wins. I see nothing "evil" about them whatsoever.

Hugs!

My favorite book is The Stand. I love the killer flu, post-apocalypse thing. I loved the miniseries, too!
