Keep your shirt on...please

Wow, someone from Moscow checked out my journal. How wild is that? I think Vladimir Putin has a crush on me. Sorry, Vlad, I'm taken!

Do you all remember those pictures of a shirtless Putin fishing and horse riding? Those still crack me up. I don't really need to see my political leaders half-naked, thank you very much.

So Tiger sank a birdie putt to force the U.S. Open into a playoff. That hasn't happened since 2001, so it's kind of exciting. He'll be playing against a guy named Rocco Mediate. He seems like a nice guy, but he's got his work cut out for him.

"I'm playing against a monster tomorrow morning," Mediate said. "I get to play against the best player that ever played. Whatever happens, happens. I'm happy that I'm here and I will give it everything I have and see what we do."

Mediate made only one bogey over the final 13 holes, seizing on his best - and perhaps only - chance to win a major. He is No. 157 in the world, and no one outside the top 100 has ever won the U.S. Open since the rankings began in 1986.

Here you are, 157 in the world rankings, and you're playing against Tiger Woods in a playoff. I don't envy you, my friend. I'll have to check and see what time and channel it comes on.

Yesterday I wrote about our family reunions. My sister Diana called last night, and her and Tom are having a big shindig on the 4th of July. Sounds fun! I asked what time and she said, "All afternoon. And all evening." They're going to do brats and potato salad and corn on the cob, and she asked me to bring a relish tray--I said I'd bring baked beans, too. Knowing my sister the pyro, we'll have a few fireworks that night, too. Sounds like a perfect 4th of July, doesn't it?

And I DON'T HAVE TO WORK! I swear, it seemed like every time someone had a get-together, I was working. Of course, when you work 3 holidays a year and every other weekend, chances are good that you'll be working whenever someone has a party. I think this might have been my year to work 4th of July, too. I can't remember. Anyhoo, I'm looking forward to it. My sis always throws a heck of a party, and what's cool about her is that she has a great time herself. She's not the type who stresses about everything--she wants to have fun, too. At her last big party--I think it was Tom's (my brother-in-law) 60th birthday party--Di was walking around with her bottle of wine, stopping to sit down and talk with everyone, just as happy as a clam. If I recall, she put on a Dean Martin CD and sang along to "Little Ol' Wine Drinker Me." Ha ha! Yep, my sis is a lot of fun!

I couldn't sleep this morning, so I got up before Ken left. My nose was giving me fits. I've never had sinus problems (although it runs in my family), but some mornings it's a nonstop sneezefest. I was tossing and turning and finally thought screw it, I'm getting up. I don't mind, because I kind of like the quiet mornings, and I also like giving Ken a "have a good day" hug. I also seem to be settling into a bit of a schedule, usually in bed by midnight and up by 9 or so. I'm sure I'll still have an occasional late night, but I don't like doing that all the time.

Hope everyone has a great week!

It sounds as if your sister and mine are cut from the same cloth. I love going to gatherings at my sister and her husband Bob's home. As you know, Bob likes to have his name mentioned, so I'm spreading it around.--Sheria
