All Hitchcocky and junk

Somehow it turned out that this weekend (with Ken in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) has ended up with a focus on Alfred Hitchcock.

Last night, it was "Psycho," today (after watching "The Thing From Another World"--James Arness as the carrot-like alien that gets fried by electricity) it was "Marnie," and tonight, it's "Rebecca." I love you, Turner Classic Movies! Mwah! Mwah!

"Marnie" is at turns irritating and sad. You can tell that she has major problems, and that something happened in her childhood, but turning away a young Sean Connery? Are you kidding me?! You just want to shake her! Sean--or his character, I should say--doesn't give up trying to figure out her aversion to storms and the color red, and when we find out exactly what happened to Marnie as a little girl...well, it's sad and disturbing and you understand everything. She goes home with Sean in the end, and I think that was a wise decision.

"Rebecca" is still on, and what a great movie! Oh, the humiliation of walking down the stairs in the same costume that the deceased Mrs. de Winter wore! The evil Mrs. Danvers...what a nasty woman. I want to smack her upside the head! Always a pleasure to see Sir Laurence Olivier, and this is such a good performance and great movie. The final scene, when Manderley is on fire, is so well done, with you-know-who framed in the firelight, and the movie is every bit as good as the book. Another Daphne du Maurier adaptation is on now, "Jamaica Inn," and while I liked that book, too, I decided to switch over to something funny, so I'm watching "Major League" now.

Oh--this was a bummer! I thought I had "The Andromeda Strain" on DVD, but I couldn't find it anywhere! On my list to buy, and soon, believe me. While I was looking for it, I chose another "guilty pleasure" movie, so I might have to watch it after "Major League." (If I get too irritated by commercials, I may watch it instead of ML.) I'm talkin' "Road House," baby! Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliott, and Ben Gazzara as the bad guy. It is so incredibly cheesy, but I totally love it! It's my way...or the highway. <snort>

I remember being up late one night waiting for Doc to get home from a gig and watching "Rebecca". I couldn't stop watching it even when Doc came home and retired to bed without me. Thanks for the reminder of a great movie. (Hugs) Indigo
