Huckabee quips about gun aimed at Obama

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Republican Mike Huckabee responded to an offstage noise during his speech to the National Rifle Association by suggesting it was Barack Obama diving to the floor because someone had aimed a gun at him.

Hearing a loud noise and interrupting his speech, Huckabee said: "That was Barack Obama. He just tripped off a chair. He's getting ready to speak and somebody aimed a gun at him and he — he dove for the floor."

There were only a few murmurs in the crowd after the remark.

The Obama campaign had no comment.

Are you kidding me?! If Huckabee was holding out any hope for a VP spot (a foolish hope, in my opinion), he just blew it big time.

This is about as funny as a heart attack, Mike. Given the real concerns that some people have that Obama might be a target--so much so that some are afraid that a vote for him will put him and his family in harm's way--and given the sad history of assassinations in our country, this is just NOT FUNNY. Who wrote this? Howard Stern?

I actually own a gun, and my Dad taught me to shoot when I was in junior high. He also taught me that guns are no laughing matter, they are not toys, and that you never EVER point a gun--whether loaded or not--at a person in jest. Serious business, and Huckabee's lame attempt at a joke is more than not funny...it's disgusting.
