A good friend

I spent a very enjoyable couple of hours today having lunch with my pal Jillian. She sent me an email last week and wondered if I'd want to get together this week, and I said, "You betcha!" It was so great to see her and talk and laugh like we always did at work! While I can honestly say that I don't miss going to work each day, there is no doubt that I miss seeing Jillian and my friends.

She filled me in on all the goings-on at the lab. It sounds like things haven't changed much--of course, it's only been about a month since I left--although apparently they're going to be getting some help and have a few people hired. Jillian and I always talked a lot about politics, and we did that today, too! Of course, we talked about stuff going on in our lives, and got caught up on everything. She's just such a sweetie!

After that, I picked up a couple of things at Target and then the grocery store, and when I got home, I carted out the recycling bins. I managed to get it all out there in 3 trips--I just can't believe how much we put out for recycling now and how little for actual garbage.

It's way too chilly today for mid-May! I was so chilled this morning that I was kind of shaky. I opened up the windows for a while, and the furnace came on! (The windows are now closed.)

Speaking of friends, I turned on "Oprah" about halfway through, and it's a reunion of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show!" How many of you watched that? Oh, I just loved it. Oprah's staff actually recreated the WJM newsroom and Mary's apartment! I even watched the spinoffs, like "Rhoda" and "Phyllis." What a fun reminder of a landmark show. I throw my hat into the air for them all!

I don't think I mentioned it here, but on May 16th I ordered the next 2 books for our book club through Better World Books. I got them today! That's some fast service!

That is so cool you had lunch with a good friend! I loved the Mary Tyler Moore Show, it was one of my favorites. Oprah has always been obsessed with it too, it seems.

I am so happy that you had a nice lunch with your friend. I don't really have any friends anymore. My best friend lives five hours away from me and my sister (the best friend I have ever had) has passed aay. We used to talk about politics and things like that too. I agree with you about May being Chilly. It actually hailed here today and yesterday. I did however get time to walk the dogs in between the rain and hail storms. I was so glad. I needed to get out. .....love, Christine

I've always loved that saying about friends. I could see both of us getting into some mischief together. How far along is Jillian now? If I remember correctly you just found out about her pregnancy before you left your job. I'll have to check out the link for the books when I get a chance. I'm looking for a good site besides Amazon.

On another note, I just want to thank both you and Ken for your tremendous support and wonderful words of comfort during the past week. (Hugs) Indigo

Your friend Jillian sounds like a true friend.  Sometimes
we lose touch with the people we worked with daily
when we retire.  Or I did.  But there are a few who
stick with you and its nice to catch up on news.  This
may be the last really cool spell (blackberry winter)
or at least thats what they tell me.  Big day tomorrow.
Gotta go Vote!    Have a good day.    Pat

I saw a bit of Oprah today near the end. I loved the MTM show and all the spinoffs as well. Television was worth watching way back then. I think to me, these shows and characters are all frozen in time in my mind. They are eternally young, so it is always a bit of a shock to see such old people on reunion shows. It feels like only yesterday they were in our living rooms, but when you see them today, you just have to know it was quite a few yesterdays ago...both for them and for me.
