You want new tires with that?

Tell me if this sounds familiar:

Me: Hello?

Woman at Service Department: Mrs. R? We have your '06 Mustang here for the recall repair, and it says you also wanted an oil change?

Me: That's correct.

SD: Now, you're also due for an engine flush.

Me: How much is that?

SD: About $150, and that includes the oil change and lube.

Me: Okay, go ahead.

SD: You're also due for tires. [I'm thinking she means rotation.] We're showing 3/32 on them and minimum is 4/32.

Me: I'll have to talk to my husband first.

So after hearing back from Ken, I called them back to have new tires put on. When he heard how bad they are, he said to go ahead.

I swear, isn't that always the way? We go in there expecting about a $30 charge for an oil change, and instead it will be well over $500. ARRGHHH!

That being said, I know it's important to keep up our cars, and as performance vehicles, they need a little extra TLC. I plan on keeping my '05 for many many years, so I'm pretty good about following the maintenance schedule. Which reminds me, Slick is also due for an oil change. Uh-oh...what else will they tell me I need?!

A little bit later

And add another $130 for a front end alignment. It hasn't been done on Blacky, and I figured that with new tires....

But ouch, man. VERY ouch.

They use all the tactics - Bait and switch is one of their best ones - It's like the net - opportunists for the most part - with a tad of actual info.

I have a terrible attitude about car repairs and the upkeep so i won't whine.....it sure hurts to keep paying all that but you will know you are safe in the end and that is important!

With the way the potholes were here this year, the alignment was most likely necessary, even without the new tires. :o)

OUCH!!  I took my car in about 2 years ago for a problem with the gear changing...they couldn't figure what was wrong with it.  It was at the dealer for over 2 weeks, then they changed a chip or something.  Fixed!  Wrong...the day they were going to call me to pick up, a vendor backed up into the rear quarter panel!  It took another 6 weeks to get it fixed.  At first, I had a rental, then they gave me a rental.  They also reimubrsed me 2 months of car payments!

Definitely OUCH! We get the same thing with our truck, then again it IS on it's last legs. We went all winter with out the heat not working ( NY is not the place to be running around in the winter with no heat)...we just couldn't see paying the money they were asking for when we knew sometime this month or next we are getting a new vehicle. The truck has been through hell and back with us but I refuse to go another winter without heat, add in the fact the door has opened on the passengers side in over a year...uh yeah it's past time for a replacement. I absolutely love the picture in this entry.(Hugs) Indigo
