I just got off the phone with my Mom. I called earlier, but they weren't home. Turns out they took my Dad's Cousin Mary and my Aunt Gertrude to lunch today, and although they were in the area, they were pooped afterwards, so they just went on home instead of stopping by our house. That's understandable, and we'll look forward to seeing them soon.
We chatted a bit about politics, because the big news today was that Barack Obama is coming to Indianapolis this Saturday. There is still talk that both he and Clinton may visit South Bend, but no confirmation yet. Mom floored me when she said, "Honey, I sure do like him. In fact, I might vote for him."
<a moment of stunned silence from me>
I said, "Are you serious?" She said, "Yeah!" I said, "I have to say, I am stunned to hear you say that." She said, "Why?" (Like they aren't dyed-in-the-wool Republicans!) I said, "You'd vote for him over McCain?" (I was still stunned at this point.) She said, "Yeah, maybe. I really like McCain, and he's a war hero, but he seems to support a lot of President Bush's policies, and I think maybe people are ready for a change. And when I listen to Obama speak, he speaks with authority."
Holy crap. I'm 45 years old, and here I thought I had my Mom pretty well figured out. Then she lays this on me. I am shaking my head and laughing, and I absolutely love the HECK out of my Mom. (And Dad, too, for that matter.) I am in complete awe of her at the moment.

You Go Mom!
They both never cease to amaze me, I am looking forward to seeing them this weekend:o)
Unfortunately, not a good weekend for them, unless we go Sat. afternoon. I said we'd talk soon and try to plan a visit, but probably not this weekend. :(
I still can't believe Mom might vote for Obama! WOW!
B.
Your mom sounds great.....Lord knows my mom sure would never be open minded enough to change.
HUGS, lisa
