A slight delay

Congratulations to my fellow Hoosier, John Mellencamp, on being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Way to go, Little Bastard!

Ken was planning on leaving for Columbus this evening, but he called a little bit ago and said that the big boss had told him and his immediate boss that he needed a few pieces of information, so Ken will be leaving tomorrow morning instead. I'm kind of glad he won't be driving 5-6 hours at night, after getting up at 5:30 this morning and working all day! Of course, then I thought, "Uh-oh, that means I need to make dinner!" I did not panic--I don't really panic at things like that, because I know there's plenty of stuff in the pantry, and I can always figure something out--and a quick look in the cupboard resulted in an easy choice: Zatarain's Black Beans and Rice, with smoked sausage in it. Problem solved!

A pretty good day at work today, without so much work that we feel immediately defeated in the morning! It's pretty dismaying to pull out the new urine cultures and have 5 racks of them--about 160-180 cultures. Yikes! I did that bench today, and I had less than 2 racks, so it was an easy day. I had time to do MRSA cultures and Hemolytic Strep cultures, some Gram stains, and of course, there are always lots of phone calls to deal with. But it was okay. Our weekly meeting was okay, too, and my buddy Jim gave a very good presentation on Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus, his senior project for the program he's going through. (He has a 2-year degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician, and decided to go back for his Medical Technology degree, a Bachelor's. He's almost done. Yay, Jimi!)

And that's enough about work for the moment. My day off started at 3:30 PM, and it is such a relief to have a day off! I'll miss seeing Ken tomorrow night, but I'm sure happy to have the day off. Whew. Also, check out the countdown clock...I'm down to 30 days!

It's supposed to get up to 50° tomorrow. I know that winter isn't quite done, and we're supposed to have more cold weather next week, but I think we could all use a little warmup, no matter how brief. After bringing in the recycling bins, I checked to see if any of the crocuses are coming up. Not yet! Soon...very soon! This is from last year:

i bet Ken would have been exhausted to drive after being up all day. Rick likes that black beans stuff too. Sounds like work went kinda ok for once...good for you.

Jimmy--cool! I'm sure that as spring and summer unfold, I'll be putting up lots of flora pics.
