The Argument Clinic

We're planning on watching the Democratic debate tonight, and I suspect we might be in for a bit of this:

Seems like things are getting a bit testy between Clinton and Obama. Not to mention Hillary and Obama! I've heard rumors that they're trying to rein in Bill, and Hillary has said emphatically that this is HER campaign. Interesting stuff!

One thing that made me quite sad today was listening to a progam on NPR. They were talking to a group of African-Americans at a college, and others were calling in, to discuss Obama's bid for the presidency. One thing that came up was that some feel a very real sense of danger for Obama...that if he's elected, he will be a greater target for assassination. That just makes me feel ill...that anyone would want to kill any public figure simply because they don't like who they are or what they represent. I guess it shouldn't surprise me--it certainly happens all the time, all over the world, most recently with Bhutto. I wonder if there really is more risk for him, or if the risk is equal for any president? I would think that being president makes you an automatic target for certain nutjobs...is the risk really greater for Obama? And his family? It just boggles my mind to think that there are people out there that would want to kill the man. It makes me shudder to think of the aftermath if something like that were to happen. I pray that it doesn't.

As we discussed, I feel that if there is risk, the risk is higher before he wins the nomination, or the office.  We can only hope that our country is enlightened enough to accept differing points of view, and the decision making of the majority.  Unfortunately, we are reminded often, in many forums, that this is not the case.  People become fanatic about their issues and positions, and frequently lose the ability for civil discussion.  The beauty of a free country is that even this fanatical behavior is protected by our great constitution.  :o)

Unfortunately there are more bigots and racist in this country than we would like to believe....anyone of them could slip off the edge and find fault with having a woman or a black man in office......

Hopefully they realize this and the security is heightened under any circumstance. (Hugs) Indigo

those two men would not agree on the color of the sky, huh? Cute video.

i feel that if Obama was elected, he would be in danger, grave danger. There are millions of closeted and open racists and his color would be an added danger. I pray i am wrong thinking that.
