No need to hit me with a 2x4!

My niece in San Diego sent me a recent news story concerning Tijuana:

Six Charred Bodies Found in Tijuana as Drug Violence Escalates in Mexico

08 July 2008

Mexican police say they have discovered six charred bodies on a street in the northern city of Tijuana.

A police spokesperson said the victims had been shot, then burned, in violence blamed on drug gangs.

Police say the discovery of the bodies Monday brings the death toll to 14 for Tijuana since Saturday.

Police say drug violence is on the rise in Tijuana after two months of relative quiet in the city across the U.S. border from San Diego, California. Almost 300 people have died in drug gang wars in Tijuana this year.

Also Monday, police say gunmen killed the head of the state police in Culiacan, Sinaloa.

Elsewhere, authorities say a severed human head with a note from the killers in a plastic bag was discovered in Culiacan Monday.

Similarly, police officials say a human head with a threatening note for Mexican law enforcement was discovered Saturday in Oaxaca.

Drug-related violence has soared recently in Mexico. Authorities attribute much of it to rival drug gangs, fighting for control of lucrative drug-smuggling routes.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon has taken steps to control the violence. Since taking office in 2006, he has dedicated tens of thousands of soldiers and police officers to the fight against drug trafficking.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.

Charred bodies? 300 dead in Tijuana in 2008? SEVERED HEADS??

I'm convinced.

America's Most Wanted runs stories on this from time to time.  They're having similar problems in some other cities in Mexico.  It sounds like it's just about to the point of just needing to level the city and start over.  Unbelievable.

No wonder so many Mexicans are trying to get out of there and
into our beloved country!  Reading something like this so very
close to us should remind us how very blessed we are to live
in these United States. It may not be perfect but it is the closest
nation to it on the face of the earth.  God bless America!   Pat

That is awful. My family lives in Texas near the Mexician border of nuevo laredo. I am really afraid for them. Things are getting rough down there...hugs, Christine

... hmmm ... I have always wondered about Tijuana ... and as rough as it is in the Motor ... it isn't quite THAT bad ...

... most of what used to be called Latin America always struck me as that bad ... I remember boxing in South America as a kid, and not wanting to leave the hotel to see ANY sights ...

... but if it is gang violence, hey, it is concentrated so don't go where they tell you NOT TO ..!

Jeez sounds like they have just as bad a problem with drugs as we do with knife crime at the moment................although luckily I don't think anyone's head has been severed over here yet :(
