The slime parade continues

This is the guy who will NOT be your next vice-president.

Edwards Admits to Cheating on Sick Wife

By PETE YOST, AP

WASHINGTON (Aug. 8) -- Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on Friday admitted to an extramarital affair while his wife was battling cancer. He denied fathering the woman's daughter.

Edwards told ABC News that he lied repeatedly about the affair with 42-year-old Rielle Hunter but said that he didn't love her. He said he has not taken a paternity test but knows he isn't the father because of the timing of the affair and the birth. A former Edwards campaign staffer claims he is the father, not Edwards. Hunter's daughter, Frances Quinn Hunter, was born on Feb. 27, 2008, and no father's name is given on the birth certificate filed in California.

The National Enquirer first reported on the affair in October 2007, and Edwards denied it.

"The story is false," he told reporters. "It's completely untrue, ridiculous." He professed his love for his wife, Elizabeth, who had an incurable form of cancer, saying, "I've been in love with the same woman for 30-plus years and as anybody who's been around us knows, she's an extraordinary human being, warm, loving, beautiful, sexy and as good a person as I have ever known. So the story's just false."

Edwards, you bastard. Is there no end to the gall of these A-holes? His wife is battling breast cancer, and this horndog is out having an affair. I wasn't an Edwards fan to begin with, but after hearing this, I'd like to smack that s***-eating grin right off his face. This is the guy who said, "I want to see our party lead on the great moral issues — yes, me a Democrat using that word — the great moral issues that face our country. If we want to live in a moral, honest just America and if we want to live in a moral and just world, we can't wait for somebody else to do it. We have to do it." Apparently by "we" he means you and me and the rest of us mere mortals...not himself, as he has apparently decided that he is exempt from such pesky moral issues as fidelity and honesty. He recently said that if chosen to be Obama's running mate, he would accept. I don't think you need to worry about that now, John Boy.

You'd think I'd stop being amazed by this kind of thing at some point, but I continue to be appalled, shocked, and disgusted. I guess what really gets to me is the fact that these people pretend to be so wonderful and righteous and upstanding...all the while being a run-of-the-mill dickweed like so many of us have encountered in our lives. It's the same deal as people like Jimmy Swaggart or Jim Bakker actually preaching to people about what God wants them to do and be and think, while secretly--or so they think--conducting their own peccadilloes. I find the hypocrisy of it all utterly and completely disgusting, and Edwards is nothing more than another jerk who can't control himself. He comes from a long line of such jerks, and I hope he's very proud of his illustrious heritage. Way to go, you smarmy, lying slimeball!

So, Beth, give your honest, heartfelt opinion!  Dang, I could hear you all the way in AZ (well, you are in CA...a lil' closer!).  What arrogance!!  Did he think if he had been chosen as the nominee...this wouldn't come out??  The ONLY reason he went public is that it was going to break anyway, and he figured it should come from him.  And who are these women these guys sleep with??  Do they believe the crap they're fed??  He says he didn't father a child...easily proven...what a jerk!

This is just another example of how the elitists in Washington preach to the masses about how WE are supposed to act, and what WE need to do, but they have absolutely no intention of doing so themselves.  Another thing that gets me on this is how the mainstream news media suppressed the story most likely because he's a Democrat.  If he had been a Republican, it would have been all over the news from day one.  The mainstream news outlets now have egg all over their face because a tabloid with such a shady reputation as the National Enquirer broke the story, and the Enquirer's Barry Levine said they left a "trail of crumbs" for the mainstream media, but they never checked it out.

As I've said many times in my life, my standards would eliminate 98% of them in Washington, maybe more.  I don't care if this is the norm there as are a lot of things, it doesn't make them right.  I've always believed that if you are elected to public office, the public is placing its utmost trust in you, so I think your life should be above reproach.

Thank goodness it came out now and not after he was in office as vice president.

Whether it's JFK, Clinton, Catherine the Great, or Valerie Bertenelli,  I could care less who sleeps with who - that's a matter for the married couple to deal with on their own and none of my business.

However, I'll admit that Edwards showed an alarming lack of awareness, sensitivity, and tact.  He's a moron.

As a Republican I wish he had been chosen as Obama's running mate - that would have been a heck of a convention once this came out, no?

I was surprised to read this story, but not shocked.  There is a scripture that says "It does not belong to man . . . to direct his own step."  How true!  Can we trust any of them?
